Managing Certificates –

Digital certificates are an important technology to secure technical environments, encrypt data over insecure networks and protect digital assets.  However, they can be difficult to manage.  There may be hundreds or thousands of certificates within a company that expire, their owners may change jobs and lose track of them, etc.   When certificates expire, systems stop working – internal and client facing outages can occur and they actually do occur at a surprising rate.  The National Institute of Standards and Technology recently issued guidance of managing digital certificates: Securing Web Transactions: TLS Server Certificate Management / SP 1800-16.
